Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis invites applications for Adjunct Faculty - ESOL. This part-time role focuses on delivering ESOL instruction, using technology to enhance learning, and maintaining accurate records as part of standard syllabi.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in ESOL or related field, with ESOL endorsement/certification or teaching experience in a second language. This position is hired each semester as needed.

• One of the following: at least one year of teaching or tutoring in a second language, or an ESOL endorsement, or an ESOL certification.
• College-level teaching experience preferred.

Salary Range: $48.67 Per Contact Hour

About the Role:

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
• Make optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
• Supplement and alter, where appropriate, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
• Engage with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and lead to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College.
• Demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning.
• Interact with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complying with College policies, guidelines and expectations.
• Maintain a safe, quality educational environment.
• Must demonstrate the ability to promote an environment that reflects the broad backgrounds represented by our students and employees in which every individual feels respected and valued.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

English for Speakers of Other Languages Discipline Standard

A qualified faculty member in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) discipline meets both of the following criteria:

• Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in English for Speakers of Other Languages, applied linguistics, English, reading, or a related field, and
• Has one of the following:
  • at least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in a second language, or
  • an ESOL teaching endorsement, or
  • an ESOL certification.

Previous teaching experience is required. College-level teaching experience preferred.
