Job description

The Virginia Commonwealth University College of Humanities and Sciences is recruiting a pool of adjunct faculty for Academic Year 2025-2026 course sections within the Department of Sociology. This pool will be utilized on an as‑needed basis. Your application will remain active through June 2026; you may resubmit for subsequent years. Only those selected for interview will be contacted.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Meet all designated course instruction guidelines.
• Grade assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubric provided.
• Respond to student inquiries within 24 hours.
• Submit midterm and final grades according to College/Department policy.
• Teach one or more sections of selected courses in the Sociology Department, depending on qualifications, including in‑person and/or online instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess a master’s degree in sociology or a related field with experience and specialized expertise directly related to the position.
• Possess excellent communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD or other doctoral degree in Sociology or a related discipline or directly related to the position is preferred.
• Previous experience teaching courses within the field.

Salary Range

$1,437 per credit hour
