The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the general area of Mechanical Engineering, anticipated to start August 2025. The appointment will be in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering. Applicants whose interests and expertise align with departmental critical teaching needs, including solid mechanics, dynamics and control, energy systems, and mechatronics, are encouraged to apply.
West Virginia University is designated an R1 University (Highest Research Activity) by the Carnegie Classification. The Statler College has seven academic departments, over 3,200 students, and 135 faculty members. The MMAE department has 30 faculty members, approximately 600 undergraduates, and 100 graduate students.
The department's annual research expenditures exceeded $14 million last fiscal year. Our programs emphasize experiential learning, with top placements in national and international competitions, such as our Experimental Rocketry, EcoCAR, and Robotics teams, which have won numerous awards, including $900K in NASA Centennial Challenges. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, and a new Bachelor of Science in Robotics Engineering starting Fall 2024, in partnership with the Lane Department.

Candidates must hold a Doctorate in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, robotics engineering, or a related field at the time of appointment. They should demonstrate the ability or potential to teach and develop courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and perform professional service activities. Prior teaching experience and scholarly activity are preferred, along with effective communication skills.
