Job Summary

The Computer Sciences and Information Systems Division (CSIS) prepares students to enter the workforce in a variety of information technology (IT) fields and/or to seamlessly transfer to a four‑year institution to continue IT related studies.

  • Under general supervision, the adjunct faculty member teaches CSIS courses to community college students.
  • Students may pursue a Certificate of Proficiency, Associate of Applied Science degree, or an Associate of Science degree in Computer Sciences and Information Systems as offered by the department.
  • Adjunct faculty member may teach classes at any SLCC campus or site.
This is a pooled position

This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit

Essential Duties
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
  • Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
  • Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
  • Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.
  • Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.
  • Informs students of progress‑to‑date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  • Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
  • Maintains professional and collegial behavior.
  • Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1‑2 days).
  • Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  • Completes all required employee trainings.
  • Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines.
  • Provides ADA accommodations as requested.
  • Other job related duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Professional Industry experience in one or more computer‑related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of information security, network administration, programming issues and best practices.
  • Assess and maintain records of student performance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

All Faculty will maintain an on‑site campus presence to encourage in‑person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for online‑only courses.

You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/Instructor on a contract‑to‑contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated At Will at any time.

You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Candidate must have either (1) or (2)

  • Master’s degree or higher.
  • Degree must be from an accredited institution and in Computer Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Computer Science, or other computer‑related field.
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution plus two or more of the following with supporting documentation:
  • Professional Certification in Computing (national, state, regional).
  • Teaching excellence award.
  • Computer or technology related college‑level coursework beyond a Bachelor’s degree, equivalent to at least 18 semester hours.
Experience
  • Paid industry experience within the last five years in any of the following areas:
  • Web‑Based Programming and Development, both client and server side.
  • Database Design, Management and Administration.
  • Software Design, Development and Engineering.
  • Information Systems or Technology.
  • Linux System Administration.
  • MS Server Network Infrastructure.
  • CompTIA Security+.
  • Cisco Security.
Preferred Qualifications

Recent full‑time or full‑time equivalent teaching experience in CSIS or closely related field at a regionally accredited higher education institution.
