Job summary

The State of Georgia invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor, Medical Assisting. The instructor will teach medical assisting courses in the Allied Health department, prepare lesson plans, and develop curriculum; work may occur at multiple college locations under supervision.

Candidates should have a Diploma in Medical Assisting with at least three years of relevant experience, and CMA or RMA certification or eligibility.

Qualifications

Job Description:
Minimum Qualifications:

Diploma of a Medical Assisting program from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of three (3) years of work experience within the last seven (7) years in the areas of patient care and/or teaching. Possess either a current RMA (AMT) or CMA (AAMA) certification or be eligible for certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting program from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university and three (3) years of work experience in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants. One (1) year teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education; have instruction in educational theory and techniques. Credentialed in good standing in medical assisting by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Responsibilities

Teaching medical assisting courses in the Allied Health department. Instructor may be required to teach classes at any location of the College. Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom/laboratory and online instruction; develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives; evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports; attends various professional development training; assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts. The position may require committee and project assignments as well as day/evening classes and activities and other duties as assigned.

Must have excellent communication, organizational, administrative, and clinical skills. Excellent human relations skills; Excellent written and verbal communications skills; Skill and experience in the operation of computers and job related software programs; Knowledge of pedagogical practice and theory; Knowledge of the mission of postsecondary vocational/technical education; Knowledge of academic course standards; Knowledge of the college’s academic programs; Skill to work cooperatively with students, faculty and staff; Skill in the preparation and delivery of classroom content; Skill to make timely decisions; Decision-making and problem solving skills; Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

Salary:

This is a part-time position without insurance benefits; work hours will not exceed 29 per week. Hourly rate is commensurate with education and work experience.

Special Notes:

It shall be a condition of employment to submit to a background investigation. Offers of employment shall be conditional pending the result of the background investigation.
