Job summary

Formative 3D is seeking an Additive Design Technician to join our Falls Church, VA production team. You will operate large-format robotic and FDM 3D printers, prepare prints, post-process parts, and ensure quality in every component produced.

You will collaborate with design and engineering to translate concepts into manufacturable furniture components, manage materials, troubleshoot printers, and support rapid prototyping in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in additive manufacturing or related production.
• Comfort with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
• Familiarity with PrusaSlicer; Fusion 360 is a plus.
• Experience with networked PCs, Office and ERP systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of industrial design principles and manufacturability.
• Startup environment experience a plus.
• Detail-oriented and safety-conscious.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain large-format robotic and FDM 3D printers.
• Prepare 3D models, optimize print settings and toolpaths.
• Schedule jobs across printers to meet demand.
• Manage filament inventory and material usage.
• Post-process parts and ensure quality.
• Assemble modular furniture components and verify tolerances.
• Troubleshoot printers and perform maintenance.
• Support rapid prototyping and evaluate new materials.
• Document production data and maintain a clean workspace.
• Collaborate with design and engineering to improve print quality.
