Under the general direction of the Chief Physician and Surgeon, Telemedicine Services Program and in accordance with CCHCS standards, policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as applicable legal mandates, the Telemedicine Primary Care Physician evaluates and treats patients and provides preventive services via electronic information and telecommunication technologies, supporting appropriate access to primary care services for all California patients, particularly those incarcerated in rural prisons. The Telemedicine Primary Care Physician supports institution-based primary care teams and provides clinical direction to non-physician primary care team members on matters that impact the care of patients as appropriate. This position participates in program development and implementation activities, and statewide quality improvement efforts. Provider on call duties and travel to prisons and other health care settings required.
This position is located in Telemedicine Services, Medical Services. The program provides vital primary care services to CCHCS patients in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s institutions via remote video conferencing. Utilizing the latest technologies, staff provides improved access to medical services statewide, while decreasing costs associated with transportation and custody, and risk to public safety. Currently, Telemedicine Services offers a wide range of specialty services including cardiology; physical medicine and rehab; oncology; dermatology; and ear, nose, and throat.
