Job summary

Northstar Behavioral Health Network is seeking an Alcohol and Drug Counselor to join our Minnesota team. You will perform comprehensive assessments, document treatments, and coordinate with placing authorities and outside agencies.

The ideal candidate has MN 245G.11 qualification, a bachelor’s degree, and at least one year of chemical dependency counseling experience; CPR certification within 30 days is preferred.

Qualifications

• Alcohol and drug counselor qualification per MN statute 245G.11
• Bachelor degree required
• 1+ year counseling experience, supervised internship acceptable

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessments for clients admitted or placed with NBH.
• Document services in weekly, individual, or information notes.
• Ensure documentation aligns with NBH policies and governing standards.
• Share information with court, corrections, and referrals as needed.
• Coordinate care with outside agencies and co-occurring disorder treatment.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Job Duties

• Provide Comprehensive Assessments for clients being admitted and/or providing
• Comprehensive Assessments prior to admission for people placed with NBH by a Placing Authority.
• Document services provided in a weekly note, individual note, and/or information note.
• Documentation will be completed according to NBH policies and procedures and standards established by governing bodies.
• Document case activity notes and important information.
• Complete and document assessments in accordance with NBH policies and procedures and standards established by governing bodies.
• Provide court, Department of Corrections, and other referral sources with information based on the outcome of assessments completed
• Work cooperatively with outside agencies.
• Exhibits knowledge of core competencies in relation to working with co-occurring disorders through continuing education and implementing skills into all aspects of treatment.
• Complete other tasks as assigned by the assigned supervisor.

Requirements

• Must be qualified as an alcohol and drug counselor according to MN Statute 245G.11 subd 5.
• Bachelor degree.
• Must have 1 or more years providing chemical dependency counseling (supervised internship applies).
• CPR Certification or attain within 30 days.
• Must understand and follow NBH's Drug and Alcohol Policy.
• Must pass a State of Minnesota Background Check.
• Must possess a current Minnesota Driver’s License with acceptable driving record Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and other computer skills.
