YMCA of San Diego County is seeking an Adaptive Swim Instructor in San Diego, CA. You will tailor aquatic lessons to individuals with diverse physical, cognitive, and sensory needs, guiding water independence and confidence in a supportive environment.

Requires completion of adaptive aquatics training and current CPR/AED, First Aid, and oxygen administration certifications. Availability includes at least 2 weekdays and 1 weekend day.

Formación

• Must be 18+ and a high school graduate.
• Formal or informal training ensuring the ability to read and write at a level necessary for job performance, plus adaptive training.
• Minimum 10 hours shadowing of a Lead Adaptive Instructor or approved online modules covering ASD, CP, and sensory processing.
• Completion of a minimum 10-hour in-person formal training in adaptive aquatics (e.g., Swim Angelfish, YMCA Adaptive In-Service, or recognized Special Education Aquatic certifications).

Responsabilidades

• Develops and implements lesson plans that adapt swimming strokes and water safety skills to each student's needs.
• Maintains constant supervision and enforces pool safety rules.
• Guides students through incremental skill progressions at their own pace.
• Identifies and corrects improper movements using positive reinforcement and adaptive equipment.
• Communicates clearly with students using verbal, visual aids, or hand signs as needed.
• Administers First Aid and CPR/AED as needed and remains calm in emergencies.
