Job summary

Muskogee Public Schools is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide flexible classroom coverage across grades and subjects. You will follow lesson plans, maintain classroom order, and tailor instruction to individual students to support learning goals.

Reporting to the Building Principal in the Instructional department, the substitute must adapt to varied daily assignments, establish rapport with students and parents, and contribute to a positive school climate under the negotiated compensation

Qualifications

• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines

Responsibilities

• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
• Follows and/or creates lesson plans and appropriate instructional aides stressing discovery and laboratory learning as necessary depending on subject taught
• Demonstrates subject matter concepts and examples using models, whiteboards, overhead projectors, computers or any other standard or approved teacher-prepared instructional aids
• Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the students
• Utilizes grading patterns that are fairly administered and based on identified criteria
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Treat pupils with respect and dignity
• Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
• Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records
• Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interprets the school program. Interacts with students, staff and parents in positive and professional manner
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
• Establishes rapport with students and provides a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning
• Actively participates in full implementation of the MPS model for School Improvement
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities
• Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
• Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing program
• Participates in curriculum development programs as required
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
• Enforces school board policies and regulations
