Job summary

Hanahau'oli School seeks experienced and flexible educators to serve as Substitute Teachers across Junior Kindergarten through 6th grade. Substitute Teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe, caring, and engaging environment while delivering pre-planned lessons and ensuring continuity of learning during the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

This position reports to the Director of Faculty & Curriculum.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or a related field.
• Experience teaching or working with children in school settings strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of child development and learning theories.
• Ability to manage a classroom positively and effectively.
• Flexibility to adapt to different grade levels and subjects as needed.
• Commitment to supporting a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all children.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Familiarity with progressive educational philosophy preferred.
• Ability to integrate technology to support instruction.
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Deliver lessons and classroom activities as provided by the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged and productive.
• Maintain a classroom environment that respects each child's developmental level and supports learning and exploration.
• Manage classroom routines, expectations, and discipline in alignment with Hanahau'oli’s philosophy of respect and encouragement.
• Communicate in a sensitive, professional manner with students, colleagues, and families as appropriate.
• Collaborate with colleagues and school administrators when needed to ensure a smooth and effective instructional day.
• Ensure the physical safety of all children by being vigilant, anticipating potential hazards, and responding appropriately to incidents.
• Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, preparedness, appropriate confidentiality, and positive engagement.
• Fulfill supervision duties such as recess, lunch, and carline as assigned.
