Job summary

The National Ability Center seeks skilled Ski and Snowboard Instructors to facilitate on-snow experiences for participants with disabilities at the McGrath Mountain Center in Park City, Utah. Instructors are paired with participants after mandatory training and teach daily during the winter season in varied weather.

Ideal candidates demonstrate intermediate to advanced skiing or riding, ASIA/PSIA certification is a plus, and a commitment to safety, customer service, and ongoing

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate intermediate to advanced skiing and/or riding skills.
  • Must attend mandatory training sessions starting late November.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, family, or group instruction for various skill levels using adaptive techniques.
  • Uphold safety protocols in a caring environment for participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ensure equipment and activities suit participants' needs and safety.
  • Complete required documentation after lessons.
  • Represent NAC positively in the community and with partners.
  • Pursue continuing education in adaptive sports to improve programming.
  • Communicate clearly with all staff, participants, and families.
  • Build strong relationships and ensure participant satisfaction and support.
  • Uphold NAC core values in daily duties.

Department: Ski and Snowboard Program

Compensation: Starting at $20.00 per hour (depending on experience and certification level)

Location: Park City, Utah

We’re looking for skilled, patient instructors who love the mountain and want to use their skills to help participants experience the thrill and freedom of snow sports.

Job Summary

Ski and Snowboard Instructors at the National Ability Center have the primary role of facilitating on-snow experiences for people with disabilities. Instructors will be appropriately paired with participants to deliver safe, fun, and effective programming upon completion of mandatory training. Our Ski & Snowboard program operates out of the McGrath Mountain Center located at the base of Park City Mountain in Park City, Utah. Ski and snowboard operations run every day during the winter snow season in a variety of weather conditions.

Typical Duties
  • Provides individual, family, and/or group instruction to a variety of skill levels utilizing adaptive techniques, strategies, and equipment as necessary.
  • Upholds safety/risk management protocols in a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ensures individuals are utilizing equipment or activities appropriate to their needs, in a safe and effective manner.
  • Completes required documentation after completion of lessons.
  • Serves as a positive representative and ambassador of National Ability Center programs, events, and activities in our community.
  • Commits to continuing education in the adaptive field utilizing internal and external resources to ensure our programs promote growth, empowerment, and improvement.
  • Communicates clearly, honestly, and respectfully with all staff, participants, parents, volunteers, management, and co-workers.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with participants, families, and community partners; addresses participant concerns and ensures high levels of customer satisfaction and necessary support for every participant.
  • Upholds and demonstrates National Ability Center core values.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to demonstrate intermediate to advanced skiing and/or riding skills.
  • Must be able to attend mandatory training sessions that begin late November.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We do not sponsor employment visas or other immigration processes to attain or maintain employment eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PSIA or AASI certification, or experience teaching ski and/or snowboard lessons.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities of all ages.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Proficiency with American Sign Language.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

  • Ability to adapt and use innovative solutions to provide personalized experiences for every participant based on their individual needs and goals.

  • Ability to demonstrate patience and provide concise and effective feedback.
  • Strong communication skills & timely response with correspondence.
  • Ability to be flexible, creative, and adaptable to situations and assignments.
  • Ability to support program needs with solution-oriented initiative.
  • Ability to positively receive and provide feedback and job coaching for development of self and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow all policies and procedures with the utmost emphasis on prioritizing risk management and safety at all times.
  • Commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented working environment while promoting the NAC Values.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to deliver professional snow-sport instruction in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme weather, for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to safely lift adaptive equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • This position requires work on weekends and holidays.
