Job summary

Misericordia Home in Chicago, IL seeks a Recreation Instructor to plan and facilitate person-centered Music, Creative Arts, Theater, Dance, and Wellness & Fitness programs for residents with developmental disabilities. You will adapt activities for varied ability levels and collaborate with the Performance Arts team, Resident Events coordinator, and volunteers to run campus and community events.

Required is at least one year of experience with intellectual disabilities, plus strong interpersonal

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities.
• Ability to build lesson plans focusing on person-centered classes in music, creative arts, theater, dance and wellness/fitness.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with the Performance Arts team and Resident Events coordinator to plan on-campus and community events.
• Strong leadership to guide direct care staff on Active Treatment techniques.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate person-centered Music, Creative Arts, Theater, Dance, and Wellness & Fitness programs.
• Build lesson plans for a variety of ability levels.
• Coordinate with team to plan on-campus and community events, including dances and concerts.
• Provide instruction to direct care staff during programming and activities.
• Develop and maintain communication with residential areas and volunteers to boost participation.
• Assist with post-programming activities and Special Olympics events as needed.
