Job summary

Danbury Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher to provide specialized physical education instruction to students with disabilities, ages 3-22, in accordance with their IEPs. The successful candidate will develop individualized instructional programs that promote fitness, motor skill development, wellness, and lifelong participation in physical activity.

Qualifications

• Connecticut certification in Physical Education required or eligible.
• Experience with students with disabilities preferred.
• Knowledge of adaptive physical education practices and assessment tools.
• Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide adaptive physical education to students with disabilities from ages 3–22.
• Develop and implement individualized PE programs based on IEP goals and assessment results.
• Plan engaging lessons with diverse strategies and adaptations to meet learning and physical needs.
• Create and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Monitor progress and maintain records related to IEP goals.
• Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and collaborate with staff and families.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
• Engage in professional development and district activities.
