Adaptive and Functional Special Education Teachers (SPED) High School 2025-2026

Reports To: Director of Special Education

Position Purpose

Provide direct instructional services for students with exceptional needs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education (or related to the subject taught) with appropriate Kansas licensure in Special Education
  • Multiple positions available
Physical/Emotional Requirements

The incumbent may be required to use skills such as speaking, hearing, visual, reading, writing, word processing, mobility, and stamina for working long hours in stress-producing environments.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Assist the IEP team in designing educational programs for students with exceptional needs.
  • Provide instruction and services according to the IEP, and communicate with parents and the IEP team about changes.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment aligned with students' maturity and interests.
  • Encourage positive classroom behavior and establish clear objectives for lessons and activities.
  • Employ various instructional techniques and media suited to students' needs and physical limitations.
  • Implement district educational philosophy and goals through instruction and actions.
  • Regularly assess student progress, consulting district specialists as needed.
  • Help enforce policies and rules governing students and classroom order.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes when needed.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Complete all special education paperwork, including IEPs and Medicaid billing.
Terms of Employment

Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated according to district policies on certified personnel evaluation.

Additional Notes

The responsibilities are not limited to this description and may include other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
