The City of Portland Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department seeks an Adapted Aquatics Instructor to teach water safety and swimming to participants with disabilities. Varied shifts include mornings, days, evenings and weekends, with on-call scheduling and background check required.
Applicants must demonstrate strong communication, safety monitoring, and experience around people with disabilities. Certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED are required; WSI and Lifeguard credentials are preferred.

The Portland Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Department is comprised of 160 full-time and over 250 seasonal staff dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Portland, Maine. They achieve this by operating cultural venues, running community programs (including Before and After School, Swim Lessons, and Senior Adult programs), and maintaining public buildings, waterfront infrastructure, 70 parks, 40+ miles of trails, 13 cemeteries, and 30 playgrounds. Their diverse team, including Park Maintainers, Lifeguards, Event Managers, Horticulturalists, and many others, works collaboratively to provide spaces and opportunities for social connection, recreation, and community development.
The City of Portland Aquatics Division is offering a unique opportunity to make a difference in the Portland community as an adapted aquatics instructor Various shifts are available including mornings, days, afternoons, evenings and weekends. Adapted Aquatics Instructors are responsible for teaching water safety and swimming skills to children or adults with physical, developmental, cognitive, or sensory disabilities. The ability to promote safety in and around the Portland pools is also desirable.

This is an on-call position with a starting pay range of $19.00-$21.00 per hour, based on certifications.
