Job summary

Houston Community College aims to support students with disabilities by providing ADA/504 compliant counseling services and accommodations. The ADA/504 Counselor educates faculty on regulations and coordinates with the EEO/Title IX office to address discrimination concerns while maintaining current knowledge of state and federal regulations.

The role requires experience in counseling adults, collaboration with faculty, and flexibility to work varied hours to support student success across campus.

Qualifications

• Education & Experience: Master’s degree with a concentration in counseling; 3 years’ experience counseling adult populations; Higher education counseling preferred.
• Licensing & Certification: Valid Texas Driver License; Counseling licensure (i.e., LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or Licensed Psychologist) required; CRC Credential a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide career assessment and counseling to undecided majors and referrals from Success Course Instructors.
• Assist in the development of career exploration resources to be utilized in Success Courses.
• Respond to crisis situations and to Campus/College-critical incidents requiring counseling services.
• Respond to early alert referrals requiring counselor intervention.
• Manage a caseload of at-risk students and provide counseling in relation to probation or suspension as referred by the Dean of Student Services.
• Provide online counseling services via email, phone, and other applicable technology.
• Maintain confidential student records.
• Coordinate with faculty to assist students facing academic or personal challenges.
• May serve on the College Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment Team.
• Review medical documentation to determine accommodations; ensure ADA/504 compliance across campus.
