Acute Inpatient Registered Nurse - RN - Dialysis

This position is responsible for providing and coordinating clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. It involves delegation of tasks to direct patient care staff and participation in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities within the kidney disease healthcare team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform essential functions under supervision and guidance from educators or other RNs.
• Collect and analyze patient data pre-, during, and post-treatment, and document findings.
• Provide ongoing education to patients and families based on assessed needs.
• Recognize and report patient status changes and collaborate with the healthcare team.
• Deliver safe, effective patient care for all modality-specific treatments.
• Coordinate communication with dialysis providers and facility personnel.
• Administer and monitor intradialytic transfusions and medications, and document responses.
• Assist with emergency responses and serve as a resource and mentor to staff.
• Complete required CAP requirements to maintain or advance certification.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Involves heavy lifting, patient mobility assistance, prolonged standing, and equipment handling.
• Work environment is a healthcare facility with potential exposure to infectious materials.
• Requires travel, participation in on-call rotations, and may include night, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Supervision

Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/RNs as a Nurse in Charge, following successful completion of training and with at least 6 months of acute dialysis RN experience.

Education and Licensure

• Current state RN licensure.
• CPR/BLS certification.

Experience and Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Nephrology Nursing experience in the last 2 years.
• Preferred: Acute dialysis experience.
