Job Summary

The professional registered nurse Inpatient Services RN CAP 1 is an entry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This position is responsible for providing coordinated, clinically competent care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. It involves delegation of tasks to care staff and participation in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes and program operations.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform all essential functions under supervision and guidance.
  2. Collect and analyze patient data pre, during, and post-treatment; document findings and adjust care plans accordingly.
  3. Educate patients and families regarding care needs.
  4. Recognize and report changes in patient status; collaborate with healthcare team.
  5. Provide safe and effective patient care for prescribed treatments.
  6. Coordinate communication with dialysis providers and facility staff.
  7. Monitor and document patient's response to treatments, including transfusions.
  8. Administer medications as prescribed and document efficacy.
  9. Assist in emergency response measures.
  10. Participate in staff training and orientation.
  11. Provide specialized nursing instruction as needed.
  12. Assist in outpatient facilities as required.
  13. Complete CAP requirements for advancement.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Heavy lifting, patient movement, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Prolonged standing and bending.
  • Moving equipment up to 200 lbs., lifting solutions of up to 30 lbs.
  • Work in a healthcare environment with possible exposure to infectious materials.
  • Travel between facilities and participation in on-call rotations.
Supervision

Oversee Patient Care Technicians, LVN/LPNs, and RNs as Nurse in Charge after meeting specific experience and training requirements.

Education and Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current state licensure.
  • CPR/BLS certification.
Experience and Skills
  • Less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience; 9+ months as RN required, 12+ months preferred.
  • 6 months acute dialysis experience preferred; ICU or hemodialysis experience advantageous.
