Purpose and Scope:
Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients, adhering to FMCNA policies, procedures, training, and complying with regulations set by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide patient care under the direct visual supervision of a Registered Nurse (FMCNA RN) or in an adjacent treatment room. Report and document all incidents, complaints, or problems to the RN.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment. Support the FMCNA Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) activities, including patient satisfaction and process improvement initiatives.
- Assist in meeting Total Area Productivity goals (TAP).
- With documented competency, set up and prime equipment as directed by the Fresenius Nurse for renal therapies.
- Greet patients, inquire about their well-being, and report any issues to the RN.
- Evaluate vascular access for patency and report findings.
- Obtain and report vital signs and weight pre and post-treatment.
- Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties.
- Calculate and program dialysis machine settings as prescribed.
- Ensure safety alarms are enabled and functioning.
- Record treatment data accurately and timely.
- Initiate renal replacement treatments per orders, setting flow rates accordingly.
- Collect and deliver specimens to the laboratory as per policy.
- Monitor and intervene during intradialytic problems, reporting unusual findings.
- Discontinue dialysis treatment following procedures, evaluate patient status, and report findings.
- Perform pre and post-treatment assessments, including weight and vital signs.
- Other duties as required.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work involves desk and computer tasks, patient interaction, and facility staff collaboration.
- Travel between facilities and to meetings may be required.
- Work environment is typical of a healthcare setting with temperature control and moderate noise.
- May be exposed to infectious materials.
- Requires physical activity including standing, bending, and lifting up to 200 lbs with assistance.

Education:
- High School Diploma required
Experience and Skills:
- 1–2 years of related experience
- Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification
