Job summary

Indiana University Health seeks a dedicated unit secretary/PCA to support patient care in the department. This role combines direct patient care with unit clerical duties under the supervision of a Clinical Nurse, ensuring a clean, efficient environment and timely information for physicians, patients, families and vendors.

Responsibilities include scheduling tests, maintaining patient records, signing patients in and out, and potentially ordering and delivering equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• CPR certification may be required to complete Unit Secretary training.
• Experience in acute patient care or completion of IU Health PCA education program is expected.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program may be required.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
• Knowledge of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department.
• Administers care to designated patients under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team.
• Ensures a clean and orderly environment for the patient.
• Provides information, directions and other assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures for the patient, maintain patient records and sign patients in and out of the unit.
• May be responsible for ordering, receiving and delivering equipment and supplies for the patient care team.
• May provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
