Job summary

TriHealth Cincinnati is seeking a Patient Care Assistant who provides basic patient care tasks under the direct supervision of an RN. You will assist with activities of daily living and routine treatments, while maintaining patient safety and comfort.

This role requires a High School Diploma or GED, BLS upon hire, and solid reading and math skills. You will document care, communicate with the care team, and help keep the unit organized and safe.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Reading and math ability appropriate to the position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Hire Required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents basic patient care tasks under the direct supervision of an RN. Maintains competency of tasks in which the PCA has been trained. Completes assigned tasks within required timeframe. Seeks clarification from the nurse when in doubt about how to proceed.
  • Maintains a safe environment. Reports safety hazards to appropriate personnel. Completes safety event report as necessary. Complies with Infection Control policies. Demonstrates knowledge of safety/emergency policies and procedures and appropriately corrects any identified hazards.
  • Performs supply, equipment, and environmental-related activities as required. Recognizes and reports problems with supply/equipment availability in a timely manner. Reports and follows through as per unit standard concerning equipment that is broken or malfunctioning. Assures equipment/supplies are readily available for use by next person.
  • Acknowledges need for self growth and accountability. Identifies area for self improvement. Demonstrates/maintains knowledge of organizational and unit changes. Supports organizational and unit changes.
  • Communicates effectively with others. Shows respect to patients, families and co-workers. Reports patient related information in a timely manner. Reports problems in completing assignment/tasks in a timely manner to the appropriate person. Documents observations and tasks performed.
  • Works in collaboration with all members of the health care team. Utilizes chain of command appropriately.
