Job summary

MedStar Health in McLean, VA seeks an experienced Respiratory Therapist to provide care across patient populations under physician orders, following established standards and protocols.

You will perform therapy treatments, operate and monitor equipment (ventilators, blood gas analysis, EKG), document assessments, and contribute to safety and quality initiatives while collaborating with the care team.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's degree or higher from an AMA accredited program in respiratory care.
• Licenses/Certifications: CRT and RCP preferred; CPR certification required.
• Registration: NRBC-eligible or NRBC-certified preferred; license to practice in Maryland.
• Experience: 0–3 years of acute care experience preferred; ability to work under pressure.
• Certifications: ACLS, NRP, PALS or equivalent required within one year where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care as ordered by physicians, including oxygen, ventilation, bronchial hygiene, and lung expansion.
• Operate and monitor respiratory equipment (ventilators, EKG machines, blood gas analysis).
• Assess patient needs, document care, and communicate effectively with the care team.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in CPR and airway management as needed.
• Support workflow efficiency and adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
