Job summary

Kindred Hospital Baldwin Park is seeking a Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture and related specimen collection for acute care patients. Under supervision of the Lab Director/Manager, you will ensure proper labeling and handling of specimens.

Requirements include HS diploma, formal phlebotomy training, state license/registration, current BLS, and at least 6 months acute care phlebotomy or 1 year MA venipuncture experience. Excellent English communication and regular attendance required.

Qualifications

• HS graduate or equivalent.
• Formal Phlebotomy training as required by state.
• State license/registration as required by state.
• Current BLS required.
• Six (6) months acute care phlebotomy experience or one (1) year experience as a medical assistant performing venipuncture or one (1) year outpatient lab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens from patients via venipuncture and skin puncture according to physician orders and applicable regulations, policies and procedures to ensure complete and accurate specimens for testing.
• Explain collection procedures and provide general testing information as needed to facilitate patient understanding and reduce patient anxiety.
• Labels and records all test tubes, logs procedures, files paperwork.
• Maintains and supplies venipuncture trays; maintains work areas; orders supplies when needed.
• Utilizes laboratory information system to document specimen collection, receipt, create manifests and other functions as needed.
• Performs clerical work and assists in laboratory functions as delegated by the Laboratory Manager/Director.
