Job description

Description

Penn Medicine is dedicated to our tripartite mission of providing the highest level of care to patients, conducting innovative research, and educating future leaders in the field of medicine. Working for this leading academic medical center means collaboration with top clinical, technical, and business professionals across all disciplines.

Today at Penn Medicine, someone will make a breakthrough. Someone will heal a heart, deliver hopeful news, and give comfort and reassurance. Our employees shape our future each day. Are you living your life's work?

Penn Medicine has an exciting opportunity for Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants to join the Cardiology Advanced Practice (CAP-Service) team. The team has two service arms: advanced heart failure and interventional cardiology (CAP-I). Responsibilities include caring for patients with advanced cardiovascular diseases such as advanced heart failure, complex valvular heart disease (e.g., TAVRs, TMVRs), ischemic heart disease requiring complex interventions, mechanical circulatory support (VADs, Impellas), pulmonary hypertension, and heart transplant recipients or complications.

This high-paced inpatient service involves comprehensive care, including admissions, daily clinical tasks, and discharge planning. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a vital part of the multidisciplinary team, working closely with specialized cardiologists who value the APP role and autonomy.

This role requires a high level of independence, strong organizational skills, and a solid knowledge of pathophysiology and pharmacology. It offers significant professional growth and opportunities to contribute to Penn Medicine’s mission of clinical care, research, and education.

All APPs will operate under the guidelines of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and are credentialed accordingly. They will work under a Collaborative Practice Agreement with their supervising physician, with responsibilities and hours defined by hospital policies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters prepared as an acute care nurse practitioner or physician assistant
  • Pennsylvania licensure as an ACNP, AGACNP, or PA-C
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Experience in cardiology and acute care preferred
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams highly valued

Additional Information:

  • This position primarily supports the CAP-Heart Failure service but may cover CAP-Interventional Cardiology as needed, requiring cross-training in interventional cardiology.
  • The position is full-time (0.9 FTE), equivalent to 72 hours every two weeks.
  • Shifts are 8-12 hours, with about 50% night shifts.
  • Includes every 4th weekend rotation and scheduled holiday coverage.

We believe the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees. Our benefits include comprehensive health programs and tuition assistance. Penn Medicine employees are committed to our mission of advancing healthcare and helping people live longer, healthier lives.
