HCA Healthcare Residency Program – Blue Ridge Regional Hospital

The HCA Healthcare Residency Program is a year‑long program designed for Registered Nurses to gain hands‑on experience and develop valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. Residents receive support from nurse educators, experienced nurses, and peers, and transition from student to registered nurse in a structured learning environment.

Location: Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Hospital: 25‑bed Critical Access Community Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare.

Program Highlights:

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition during admission and on each shift, identifying and reporting changes in patient status.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, and other functions as ordered by medical providers; document care in the medical record promptly and accurately.
• Administer prescribed medications, monitor therapeutic response, and intervene appropriately for unintended reactions.
• Respond promptly to patient requests, anticipate needs, and resolve issues proactively.
• Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and side‑effects, translating complex terminology into understandable language.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within one year of employment.
• Additional certifications may be required during employment.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Registered Nurse license (or Graduate Nurse) in the applicable state.
• No prior experience required.
• Travel may be needed for training.
