Job summary

Fmolhs is seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant to provide therapy under the supervision of a licensed OT in a hospital setting. The role supports evaluation, treatment planning, and adaptive device design to aid patient recovery.

You will supervise Rehabilitation Technicians, maintain records, and communicate with physicians while attending inservice trainings and meetings as required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree from an Accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant program required.
• Mississippi state licensure as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide OT treatment under supervision of a licensed OT to meet defined goals.
• Assist in patient testing, evaluations and procedures; implement treatment plans.
• Design and fit adaptive devices such as splints, braces, ADL tools.
• Teach patients and families skills to participate in therapy, tailored to comprehension.
• Maintain medical records documenting patient responses to treatment.
• Communicate with physicians regarding patient treatment.
• Supervise Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides as appropriate.
• Participate in inservice trainings and attend meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, provides occupational therapy treatment as established by the Occupational Therapist to meet specific measurable goals. Reports to the Clinical Coordinator.

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Assists the Occupational Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and procedures. Carries out a treatment program for assigned patients, as determined by the evaluation performed by the Occupational Therapist. Designs and fits adaptive devices such as splints, braces, ADL devices and tools based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs. Teaches patients/family the skills and techniques required for participation in Occupational Therapy, adapting the instruction and techniques to meet the comprehension level of the patients/family. Reports any changes in a patient’s condition to the supervising Occupational Therapist and assists in updating treatment plans. Maintains adequate records within the medical record regarding patient responses to treatment techniques. Maintains communication with physicians, via verbal and written reports, regarding patient treatment. Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately. Conducts or participates in Inservice training as needed for other hospital personnel. Participates in educational programs and Inservice meetings. Attends meetings as required. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

• Associate’s degree and graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapist Assistant program required.Prior training or experience in related environment is preferred.Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize patients’ individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures.
