Job summary

OpenAI’s Robotics team seeks Engineering Technicians to support the assembly, testing, and prototyping of custom electromechanical actuators for advanced robotic systems in San Francisco. You will build hardware from drawings, test, troubleshoot, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test engineers.

This hands-on role focuses on stator prototypes, motor assemblies, and validated build records, with in-person presence five days a week in SF.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building or testing electromechanical hardware.
• Ability to read drawings, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and procedures.
• Careful use of hand tools, torque tools, and measurement equipment.
• Troubleshoot methodically, document observations, and know when to pause work for engineering input.

Responsibilities

• Actuator builds: assemble subassemblies and actuators from drawings and instructions.
• Testing: set up and run mechanical and electrical tests, record measurements.
• Stator prototyping: support winding, insulation, termination, bonding and inspection.
• Troubleshoot build/test issues with engineers and verify rework results.
