Job summary

MassMutual is seeking an experienced Actuary/Product Manager for its Stable Value team in Boston, MA or Springfield, MA. The role focuses on product management, development, pricing, underwriting and risk analysis within the Institutional business.

The candidate will combine actuarial expertise with collaboration across internal teams and external clients, influencing strategies and delivering on complex initiatives with a focus on stable value products.

Qualifications

• Minimum: ASA or FSA certification.
• 8+ years of related experience in financial services.
• 4+ years of stable value experience.
• 1+ year of synthetic GIC product, contract and risk experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and decide on plan underwriting information for new sales opportunities.
• Evaluate and implement client stable value contract modification requests with legal input.
• Lead and contribute to product changes and new offerings including pricing, contracts, filing, and risk assessment.
• Review stable value investment portfolios and build pricing and risk analysis models.
• Determine new business and in-force crediting rates for stable value contracts.
• Analyze risks and underwriting considerations and participate in contract negotiations.
• Perform experience studies and set assumptions; present complex analyses to executives.

The Opportunity

The Institutional businesses are growing and represent a key component of the company’s business strategy. As a Product Manager, you will focus on product management, development, pricing, underwriting and risk analysis. This role will require combining technical investment/actuarial/product skills with influence, collaboration, and effective communication with internal business and operational teams, corporate and other MassMutual functions, as well as interaction with external clients and intermediaries.

The Team

The Stable Value Product Team provides insights into the evaluation of new opportunities and the risk characteristics of our in-force business.

The Impact

The Institutional businesses are growing and represent a key component of the company’s business strategy. As a Product Manager, you will focus on product management, development, pricing, underwriting and risk analysis. This role will require combining technical investment/actuarial/product skills with influence, collaboration, and effective communication with internal business and operational teams, corporate and other MassMutual functions, as well as interaction with external clients and intermediaries. Specific responsibilities include:

• Own the review of and decision making related to plan underwriting information for new sales opportunities


• Evaluate and implement existing client stable value contract modification requests, in partnership with legal team as approved


• Lead and contribute to projects related to product changes and new product offerings including pricing, contracts, filing, and risk assessment


• Reviewing stable value investment portfolios


• Building and maintaining pricing and risk analysis models


• Determine new business and in-force crediting rates for stable value contracts


• Analysis of risks and underwriting considerations and participating in contract negotiations


• Performing experience studies and setting assumptions


• Presenting complex analyses and concepts to executive management


• Soliciting and analysis of competitive data


• Influencing and contributing to ongoing business strategy and growth

The Minimum Qualifications

• A certified ASA or FSA


• 8+ years of related experience in the financial services industry


• 4+ years of stable value experience


• 1+ year of synthetic GIC product, contract and risk experience

The Ideal Qualifications

• CFA with experience in ALM, investment portfolio development, investment risk analytics is desired, but not required


• Knowledgeable in aspects of stable value or Insurance Company General Account products


• Ability to:
