The US Retail Markets (USRM) Personal Lines (PL) Auto State indications team is looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst / Actuary to join our team. In this highly impactful role, you will play a pivotal role in producing quarterly rate indications to support rate decisions. This is a unique opportunity to help drive enhancements and sophistication to our processes and methodology. This position will work in a collaborative environment with partners and stakeholders in Risk Analytics and State Management.

  • This is a ranged posting for a Senior Actuarial Analyst or an Actuary. Level offered is based on candidate experience at manager discretion.**

This role may have in-office requirements depending on candidate location.

As An Actuary, You Will
  • Lead work on state indications that serve as a foundation for rate guidance, ensuring that our rate actions and underwriting levers improve each state’s profit position.
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping state indication strategy, leveraging a robust suite of actuarial methods.
  • Help identify and propose enhancements to our existing processes and methodologies to drive for operational excellence.
  • Be an influential partner with other Risk Analytics subject matter experts to ensure a comprehensive understanding of unique state features, and collaborate with Directors of State Operations to develop customized state levers.
  • Share your insights and recommendations which will greatly influence state-level decision-making and contribute to our goal of achieving top-quartile profitability.
  • Build trust, credibility, and strong relationships will enable you to influence decisions and execution beyond the Auto Analytics team.
  • Be a senior member of the team and also contribute to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and high-performing culture.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members, sharing your expertise and supporting their development.
In This Role, You Can Expect To
  • Deliver state level indications to internal stakeholders to drive actions and influence decisions to achieve top quartile profitability.
  • Build indications tools and processes to increase our organizational understanding of our methodology and inform state level profitability position.
  • Proactively identify opportunities, drive analysis, and make recommendations for appropriate strategies to develop, evaluate and enhance state level profitability.
  • Act as a trusted partner to State Management to help inform and influence state-specific strategy and tactics, including pricing and underwriting levers.
  • Collaborate with Country Wide (CW) Indications, CW State Analytics, Actuarial, Finance, Claims and Data Science to gain better understanding and assess and improve profitability with a state focus.
  • Support cross-team initiatives to enrich the deliverables with state-specific insights.
  • Building trust and credibility with teams beyond State Analytics to drive decisions and execution.
  • Support an inclusive, equitable and high performing culture.
  • Coach and mentor junior team members.
Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Strong technical proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, advanced formulas, data modeling) and SQL, with demonstrated experience querying and manipulating large datasets.
  • Ability to design and build scalable, repeatable processes for data extraction, transformation, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical or analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to gather and interpret stakeholder requirements, ask clarifying questions, and respond to follow-up questions with confidence and clarity.
  • Comfort working cross-functionally and managing multiple stakeholder relationships simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Qualifications

Senior Actuarial Analyst
  • Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Commitment to achieving Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Passing grades on a minimum of 5 Casualty Actuarial Exams is required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience required.
  • Prior experience and solid knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Solid oral and written and presentation communication skills and ability to interact effectively within and outside the organization.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, and apply independent judgment and well-developed critical thinking skills in execution of assignments and projects.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with minimal direction.
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.); Ability to build models of moderate complexity.
Actuary
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) designation preferred or comparable education/designation with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and interact effectively with others within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates.
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.) with ability to build complex models.
