Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive actuarial experience with an FSA designation.
  • Deep experience in group product lines (Dental, Vision, Group Life, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Supplemental Health, Leave and Absence Management).
  • Experience managing multiple initiatives, working with ambiguity, and adapting to change.
  • Experience developing or implementing pricing analyses, assumptions, monitoring frameworks, or governance processes; strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred, or demonstrated experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-product pricing and risk processes and reporting.
  • Partner with Product and Pricing leaders to analyze new business and renewal results and adjust pricing approaches.
  • Develop and maintain pricing tools, models, and reporting capabilities used by Pricing and Underwriting.

  • Provide actuarial and risk expertise on cross-functional initiatives.

We're actively seeking a talented Director of Product and Pricing Risk to join the Workforce Benefits Product and Pricing organization. We are actively seeking a talented Actuary & Director, Product Pricing Risk on our Workforce Benefits team. This role is on-site 4 days per week and work from home 1 day per week in Newport Beach, CA,Omaha, NE, or Charlotte, NC. If you are not currently located near one of our offices, we offer comprehensive relocation assistance.

Our new Workforce Benefits division seeks to disrupt the group benefits market with a digital first strategy. As a Director of Product and Pricing Risk, you will support disciplined product and pricing decisions across the Workforce Benefits portfolio by leading cross-product analytics, governance, risk monitoring, and pricing capability development. You will translate business priorities into practical pricing and risk frameworks, coordinate work across product lines, and provide recommendations and insights to Product and Pricing leaders. You will partner closely with pricing leadership, as well as colleagues in Underwriting, Finance, Sales, Enterprise Risk, Technology, and Operations. The role combines strong actuarial judgment, hands-on leadership, and the ability to drive execution through influence in a growing business. You will lead a small team and will work cross-functionally with division leadership and key partners in to develop leading edge risk management and market winning pricing strategies.

How you will make an impact:
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of cross-product pricing and risk processes, tools, and reporting that support consistent execution across Workforce Benefits products.

  • Partner with Product and Pricing leaders to analyze new business and renewal results, evaluate emerging trends, and recommend adjustments to pricing approaches, profitability targets, and portfolio guardrails.

  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of pricing tools, models, and reporting capabilities used by Pricing and Underwriting, including quoting tools, experience-rating support, quote monitoring, and management reporting.

  • Build and maintain portfolio analytics that connect growth, profitability, competitiveness, and risk. Translate results into clear insights, options, and recommendations for business leaders.

  • Facilitate cross-product assumption setting and documentation for items such as expenses, interest rates, profitability metrics, and other shared pricing inputs, in partnership with Finance, Pricing, and Product leadership.

  • Establish and maintain practical monitoring standards, key performance indicators, thresholds, and escalation routines. Identify deviations and coordinate appropriate analysis and follow-up with accountable product-line leaders.

  • Prepare clear, decision-ready materials for product, pricing, and risk governance forums. Coordinate reviews and approvals and ensure decisions, assumptions, and follow-up actions are documented.

  • Provide actuarial and risk expertise on cross-functional initiatives involving underwriting practices, reinsurance, vendor or external-party risk, and new or enhanced product capabilities.

  • Lead the cadence and prioritization of experience studies and other data-driven analyses in partnership with product pricing actuaries, ensuring findings are translated into actionable recommendations.

  • Support month-end and quarter-end financial and reserving activities, as assigned, through analysis of claims experience, reserve movements, and key financial risk drivers.

  • Lead and develop actuarial professionals and rotational analysts by setting clear priorities, reviewing work, strengthening technical capabilities, and creating meaningful development opportunities.

  • Manage multiple initiatives in an evolving environment, escalating material issues and strategic trade-offs to the appropriate AVP or VP leader. Support other projects as needed on a very nimble and collaborative team.

The experience you will bring:

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$203,760.00 - $249,040.00
