Job Summary

Kemper Auto is seeking a highly skilled Resident Actuarial Engineer to integrate solution development and data engineering practices within actuarial processes. This role bridges actuarial science, solution development, and advanced data engineering, ensuring data-driven decision-making is enabled through an ecosystem of capabilities built in seamless collaboration with the actuarial team. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development, maintenance, and implementation of data-driven pricing strategies for personal and commercial auto insurance products, ensuring the accurate, actionable use of data to drive our business forward.

Responsibilities
  1. Actuarial Solution Development: Develop and maintain a suite of actuarial capabilities, including processes for portfolio re-rating to understand the impact of proposed changes and expected performance. Develop solutions using Python in a cloud-based ecosystem.
  2. Actuarial Data Support: Collaborate with the actuarial team to provide data solutions for pricing through advanced analytics and automation tools, ensuring alignment with actuarial methodologies and business requirements. Work closely with data solutions teams to ensure data is structured for consumption by the actuarial team and that data requirements are fully articulated. Ensure data is ingested into the actuarial ecosystem in a governed and controlled manner.
  3. Innovation and Optimization: Contribute to the adoption of advanced analytics to improve actuarial processes, optimize data workflows, and identify and resolve inefficiencies. Develop scalable programming solutions and implement data strategies aligned with organizational objectives and KPIs. Automate and streamline processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  4. Data Governance & Compliance: Support the establishment and adherence to data governance protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Safeguard data security and maintain accuracy and integrity by following industry and actuarial best practices.
  5. Collaboration: Work closely with the actuarial team to align data and pricing strategies with business objectives. Recognize system opportunities or issues during data analysis and communicate them to technology partners. Support team members and stakeholders to enhance understanding and adoption of pricing technologies.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  2. 3+ years of experience in solution or data engineering, data analysis, or similar roles. Familiarity with actuarial principles, insurance data structures, regulatory requirements, and reporting standards.
  3. 3+ years experience in Python development, creating applications with clean code techniques.
  4. SAS proficiency is a plus.
  5. Test-driven development experience is a plus.
  6. Experience with Amazon SageMaker is a plus.
  7. Knowledge of data manipulation techniques and ingestion patterns.
  8. Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  9. Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  10. Experience supporting advanced analytics in an actuarial or research engineering role.
  11. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with a results-oriented mindset.
  12. Excellent communication skills to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  13. Proven track record in large-scale data-driven projects.
