This job role is in the Optum Advisory and Implementations business unit under the Government Programs Actuarial (GPA) practice. The GPA practice focuses on providing actuarial consulting services to Medicare and Medicaid payers. This actuarial consulting practice competes with other traditional actuarial consulting organizations in the industry. The GPA practice primarily works with non-United Health Group payer entities and focuses on creating top tier actuarial solutions for its customers. Since this job is a consultative role, work responsibilities will vary based on customer needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Medicare Resource Group (MRG), assist in the development, design, and troubleshooting of the actuarial tools used by GPA
  • Develop actuarial and analytical models related to Part C Bids
  • Design mathematical analyses and actuarial models to evaluate plan financial performance and benefit plan design
  • Maintain existing models and tools related to Part C Bids, plan financial performance, and product strategy

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 Actuarial Exam Passed
  • 2+ years of actuarial experience
  • Experience building financial models in Excel and VBA
  • Expertise in Excel and Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with SAS or SQL, and working with large claim datasets
  • Proven well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple work streams and projects effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ Actuarial Exams Passed
  • Medical claims data analysis
  • Medicare Advantage bid experience

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
