Job summary

Symetra is seeking an Actuarial Associate I to join the Enterprise Risk Management team to support ICS reporting. You will ensure accurate results, work with multiple departments including Sumitomo Life, and help drive timely capital reporting and governance.

The role emphasizes hands-on model management, data gathering, and continuous process improvements within a collaborative environment. A strong mathematical background and proficiency in SQL or Python are required.

Qualifications

• Understanding of capital requirements and calculations.
• MG-ALFA experience.
• Proficiency in SQL or Python.
• Microsoft Office 365.
• Understanding of insurance GAAP and statutory accounting principles, as well as company financials (income statements, balance sheets, policyholder reserves).
• Some experience with actuarial issues in company, industry, and regulatory contexts.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with strong quantitative background including college level mathematics.
• High school diploma required.

Responsibilities

• Calculate and report capital requirements under the ICS framework on a quarterly basis.
• Manage and run models, updating inputs and producing results.
• Produce and analyze model outputs and spreadsheet calculations.
• Coordinate with business partners to gather data and meet reporting deadlines.
• Document reporting procedures and maintain process documentation.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and enhancements to streamline calculations.
• Support audits and model governance activities by preparing documentation and responding to information requests.
