Job description

Actuarial Analyst II | 100% Remote (WFH) Opportunity

General Summary

The Actuarial Analyst II position supports EMPLOYERS' reserving function, with primary responsibility for the quarterly and annual loss reserve analysis process, as well as other actuarial support associated with quarterly financial bookings. This position compiles and analyzes company and industry data to estimate current and future liabilities, prepares supporting exhibits for financial statements and regulatory filings, and interacts directly with Finance, Accounting, and Claims. Precision and attention to detail are essential, as this role is critical to ensuring accurate, reliable financial results and enabling data-driven decisions about risk, growth, and profitability.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Prepare quarterly and annual loss reserve analyses, on a gross and net-of-reinsurance basis, to support company balance sheet liabilities, applying standard actuarial methods (e.g., loss development, Bornhuetter-Ferguson, expected loss ratio) using ResQ and other actuarial reserving systems and internal/external (bureau) data sources.
  • Partner directly with Finance and Accounting throughout the quarterly close process — reconciling reserve estimates to the general ledger, responding to inquiries, and meeting close deadlines under minimal guidance.
  • Prepare and review actuarial exhibits and support for quarterly/annual financial statements and actuarial reports.
  • Respond to requests from other departments and external auditors.
  • Act as technical/peer reviewer of others' reserving work — verifying calculations, data inputs, and assumptions, and asking probing questions to catch errors before deliverables are finalized.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reserving processes, exhibits, and documentation that enhance accuracy, reduce error risk, and improve close-cycle efficiency.
  • Manage reserving-related projects and deliverables, including scheduling, documentation, and tracking against quarterly close deadlines.
  • Perform analysis supporting the budget loss ratio and other Financial Plan components.
  • Other duties as assigned or as business needs arise.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or Business.
  • Minimum 2 years of actuarial experience [in the property and casualty insurance industry] required; reserving experience strongly preferred.
  • Successful completion of four or more exams toward ACAS/FCAS strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ResQ or a comparable commercial reserving platform preferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when working with data that feeds directly into financial statements.
  • Prior experience collaborating with Finance/Accounting, especially during a quarterly or month-end close process, is a plus.
  • Solid working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Current knowledge of, or capacity to learn, tools such as SQL, VBA, R, Python, and AI tools (e.g., Claude) to improve actuarial workflows.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and of communicating analysis and issues clearly to management.
  • Works well in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with effective written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment
  • Remote: This role is 100% remote, open to candidates currently located in the United States who are able to work without sponsorship.
  • Requires a private, quiet workspace suitable for focused work and video collaboration.
  • Hours: Schedules are set to accommodate the needs of the role and organization, and may be adjusted as needed.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to off-site locations for meetings may be required.

Salary Range : $70,000 - $105,000 with a comprehensive benefits package. Details: EMPLOYERS Benefits and Perks
