Unknown is seeking an actuarial analyst to uncover insights that shape fiscal year decisions and future strategy. The role centers on underwriting analytics, rate filings, and financial modeling, with collaboration across claims, finance, and leadership.
The candidate will interact with external actuaries and partners; a hybrid work setup is offered, and there is 5% bonus potential along with base salary. Strong data skills and CAS progress are valued.
We are looking for a self-driven candidate who is excited to uncover insights and make key strategic
decisions to shape HIC’s fiscal year and future trajectory. Ideal candidates are self-starters, asking
questions on their own and sharing insights and recommendations with the team.
The actuarial analyst will be pivotal in shaping our company’s underwriting, developing an
understanding where we are and where we are going. They will assist in the review and publication of
internal rate studies and ad hoc reports. They will be tasked with working with the various internal
claims stakeholders to review reports and certain trends. They will assist in preparing the company’s
rate filings, reviewing reserving studies, and crafting future business opportunities. They will work with
the finance stakeholders to assist with reinsurance cession determinations.
This is for someone who has made progress toward the CAS actuarial designations, but the role does
require a designation. If the candidate so chooses, we are willing to support actuarial career pursuits
with a bespoke study program, but this is not a requirement.
Knowledge of actuarial concepts like frequency and severity
Has passed some CAS Exams or propensity to be versed in actuarial science
Heavy R user or willingness to learn R, with a projection to transfer away from R to a more
widely used comparable language
A suitable candidate will understand that we do not have an internal actuary department. They will interact with our external actuary firms, reinsurance partners, and regulatory agencies. This will be a one-person department. They will work collaboratively with the various Company leadership team members. They should be comfortable with Python, R, SQL, Excel/VBA, and working with big data sets, have reserving and pricing experience. They will be proactive, able to take ownership of this role, and grow alongside the Company. We will consider this a hybrid role.
