The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is seeking candidates for the position of Activity Therapist on the Skilled Unit at Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta, located in Decatur, GA.

Salary: $43,784.00 - $52,007.28

Job Description

Plan, direct, or coordinate therapeutic recreation programs. Activities include sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Conduct assessments of clients' conditions and recommend appropriate recreational activities.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards
  • Conduct therapy sessions to improve clients' mental and physical well-being.
  • Confers with treatment team members to plan and evaluate therapy programs.
  • Develops treatment plans based on needs assessments, client interests, and therapy objectives.
  • Encourages clients with special needs to acquire new skills and participate in health-promoting activities.
  • Instructs clients in activities such as sports, gardening, dance, music, art, or relaxation techniques tailored to their needs.
  • Observes and records clients' participation, reactions, and progress, adjusting programs as needed.
  • Gathers information from medical records, staff, family, and clients to assess capabilities and needs.
  • Organizes and participates in treatment activities to facilitate rehabilitation and community integration.
  • Prepares reports reflecting clients' progress or regression.
Technical Competencies
  • Knowledge of DSM-V-TR assessment of psychological disorders.
  • Knowledge of exercise programs like yoga, aerobics, walking, and relaxation techniques.
  • Ability to use recreation therapy assessment tools to document progress.
  • Ability to develop structured program activities based on policies and client needs.
  • Ability to collaborate with treatment teams for scheduling and planning.
