Job description

Bronson Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a PRN Activity Therapist to join our team. At Bronson, we believe activity therapy is an essential component of the treatment services provided to the patients we serve.

The Essential Job Functions Include:
  1. Complete activity assessment through patient observation and patient/family interview, obtaining information on the patient’s needs, skills, interests, and limitations for the development and implementation of the treatment plan.
  2. Plan, organize, direct, and implement activities within the treatment program to facilitate patient progress with treatment goals.
  3. Plan and implement an activities program including therapeutic leisure skills, activities, leisure education, and leisure awareness.
  4. Facilitate and lead activity sessions to improve patient mental and physical well-being.
  5. Instruct patients in activities and techniques such as sports, dance, music, art, or relaxation techniques designed to meet their specific needs.
  6. Develop treatment plans and implement activity interventions that meet patient needs and interests to help achieve treatment goals.
  7. Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games, and community outings.
  8. Help patients learn social skills needed for independence.
  9. Modify activities to suit the needs of specific groups.
  10. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards patients at all times. Address and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met. Prioritize patient safety.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related field required.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. Three or more years of experience in recreation within a healthcare setting, with knowledge of the patient population served by the facility, required.
  4. Previous experience in healthcare recreation is preferred.
Licenses/Designations/Certifications:
  1. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or in the process of obtaining national certification; OR certification in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.) OR clinical licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area required.
  2. CPR, de-escalation, and restraint certification required (training available upon hire as part of orientation).
