Care New England seeks an Activity Therapist/Mental Health Worker to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in a Young Adult/Adolescent Inpatient Unit. This part-time role involves leading therapeutic activities, ensuring patient safety, and advocating for patient needs. Ideal candidates have a degree in social sciences and experience with mentally ill clients.
The Activity Therapist/Mental Health Worker collaborates with unit staff and the interdisciplinary treatment team (under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist) to implement groups and activities within the hospital milieu, addressing the educational, recreational, and social needs of patients.
Responsibilities: Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment on the unit through observation, monitoring, interaction, and leading groups. Assist registered nurses in the direct care of patients, particularly in activities of daily living. Act as a patient advocate by modeling performance standards and communicating patients' needs for service.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences preferred.
Training and Experience: Experience working with mentally ill clients and activity-based groups is preferred.
Special Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, creative and flexible approach.
Schedule: Part-Time, 20/40 hours, Evening shifts, every other weekend.
