Care New England is seeking an Activity Therapist/Mental Health Worker to work with the inter-disciplinary treatment team on the Delmonico 3C Unit, delivering group activities to meet educational, recreational, and social needs of patients.

The role involves maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment, assisting nurses with daily living activities, and advocating for patients through compassionate, collaborative care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in any of the social sciences preferred.
• Experience in working with mentally ill clients and experience working with activity-based groups preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, ability to work with others in a collaborative manner, creative and flexible.

Job Summary

The Activity Therapist/Mental Health Worker works in collaboration with unit staff and the inter-disciplinary treatment team (under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist) in implementing groups and activities within the hospital milieu to meet the educational, recreational, and social needs of the patients.

Duties & Responsibilities

Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment on the unit through observation monitoring, interacting and providing groups.

Assists registered nurses in direct care of patients, specifically patients’ activities of daily living when assigned.

Provides role as patient advocate through your own role modeling of standards of performance and by communicating and meeting patients’ needs for service.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in any of the social sciences preferred.

Training and Experience: Experience in working with mentally ill clients and experience working with activity-based groups preferred.

Special Qualifications: Excellent communication skills, ability to work with others in a collaborative manner, creative and flexible.

Schedule: 36/72 Full Time Evenings - Every Other Weekend.

Delmonico 3C Unit info: This unit will focus on providing specialized treatment for our patients with unique and complex needs. In addition to patients with psychotic and mood disorders, patients treated on this unit will include those with severe behavioral disturbances and patients who are intellectually and developmentally disabled.
