Responsibilities
- Researches, plans, and implements person-centered therapeutic recreation programs tailored to residents’ routines, needs, and leisure interests.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment team members and families to deliver effective therapeutic recreation (TR) interventions daily.
- Leads and facilitates person-centered recreation sessions, applies appropriate therapeutic interventions, and coordinates special events and outings as needed.
- Coordinates and assists with resident transport and supervision during all scheduled therapeutic recreation activities.
- Maintains and updates the ActivityPro software system, ensuring programming reflects individual preferences, and generates reports as required.
- Assesses residents’ specific TR needs and documents findings in PointClickCare (PCC), including care plans, goals, interventions, quarterly and annual assessments, progress notes, and MDS sections.
- Reviews and audits department documentation in PCC on a routine basis to ensure accuracy and compliance with established standards.
- Coordinates and schedules TR programs that align with residents’ needs, goals, and leisure interests.
- Evaluates the effectiveness and daily functioning of both group and individual TR programs to ensure meaningful engagement and outcomes.
- Trains and mentors staff on new therapeutic techniques and interventions for individual and group activities.
- Maintains proper operational levels of all equipment, supplies, and work areas to support safe and efficient service delivery.
- Contributes to performance improvement projects and interdisciplinary committees, including Palliative Care, Fall Prevention, and Behavioral Health initiatives.
- Conducts in-service training sessions within specialized areas of therapeutic expertise.
- Communicates and reports residents’ behavioral, emotional, and functional responses during recreational sessions to the treatment team.
Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of full-time experience in planning, coordinating and supervising a recreation activities program in a hospital, health care or related facility.
