Activity Specialist - Fishing - Camp - Wa Kon Tah

This position involves overseeing activities at a YMCA summer camp, focusing on fostering a welcoming environment for all participants and ensuring safety and program quality.

Position Summary: Under the guidance of the Youth Development Director, the Activity Specialist manages their assigned area, staff, and participants, emphasizing character development and community building.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ensure safety and well-being of participants, following all policies and reporting procedures.
  2. Provide excellent customer service to members, guests, and staff, including communication with parents.
  3. Plan and implement program activities, supporting curriculum delivery and staff as needed.
  4. Supervise program areas, maintain supplies, and ensure cleanliness.
  5. Assist in personnel management and report concerns or successes.
  6. Participate in team meetings and daily recaps.

Leadership Competencies: Program Management, Collaboration, Developing Self and Others.

Safety & Compliance: Adherence to child abuse prevention policies, background checks, and drug/alcohol policies are mandatory.

Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old (preferably 21+), with 2+ years of youth work experience, ability to learn quickly, and cultural competence. Must complete required trainings within 60 days.

Work Environment & Physical Demands: Ability to communicate effectively, respond swiftly in emergencies, and perform physical activities including walking, lifting, and engaging in motor games with youth.

Job Details: Entry-level, full-time, in the Wellness and Fitness Services industry, based in Springfield, IL, with a salary range of $49,500 - $71,500.
