Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) is hiring an Activity Specialist for the Seth Low Cornerstone program, located at 2945 West 33rd Street, Brooklyn, NY. The role supports activities for children, youth, adults and seniors, with afternoon to evening hours and a focus on multi-sensory, academically themed activities.

The position requires a High School Diploma with some college preferred and an interest in arts, sports, or related activities. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• Background in arts or sports is a plus.
• Must enjoy working with children.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with Site Director and Assistant Director/On-site Supervisor to provide activities for children, youth, adults and seniors.
• Help implement multi-sensory lessons and activities for children within academically stimulating themes.
• Coordinate planning and preparation of activities and materials for daily schedule.
• Provide supervision to groups of children during classroom activities, snack time, recreation and field trips; supervise middle/high school participants during evenings/weekends.
• Take daily attendance.
• Assist with developing and planning community events for children, parents and community.
• Oversee and monitor drop off and pick up of children following health and safety protocols.
• Outreach to parents and community to promote the program, activities and upcoming events.
• Attend and comply with training requirements, including health and safety protocols.

Position: Activity Specialist

Program: Seth Low Cornerstone

Reports to Program Director

Locations: 2945 West 33rd Street, Brooklyn, NY 11224

Hours: Up to 25 hours per week (school year) and up to 35 hours per week (Summer)

The Program operates every day between 2:00pm and 10:00pm during the School year and every day between 3:00pm and 11:00pm during the Summer. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required.

Salary: $17.00 per hour to $17.00 per hour

Cornerstone Programs provide academic, art and recreational opportunities to children, teens and adults in NYCHA community centers. BCS Cornerstone Programs are located in Brownsville, Fort Greene, and Coney Island.

• Responsible for taking daily attendance;
• Assist with developing and planning community events for children, parents and community;
• Oversee and monitor authorized parental/guardian drop off and pick up of children following all health and safety protocols;
• Outreach to parents and community to promote the program, activities and upcoming events;
• Attend and comply with training requirements, including all healthy and safety protocols;
• Other responsibilities as needed and requested by site director;

Requirements:

• High School Diploma required.
• Some college education preferred.
• Background in sports, music, drama, dance, photography, crafts, sewing, or the arts is a plus.
• Must enjoy working with children
