Job summary

Cobble Hill LifeCare in New York seeks a compassionate and energetic Activity Leader to join our Recreation Department. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience in Activities within a skilled nursing facility and will enrich residents’ lives through engaging programs.

Responsibilities include planning daily activities, promoting participation, coordinating events, and ensuring compliance with safety and HIPAA policies while collaborating with the care team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an Activities Department within a nursing home or skilled nursing facility.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Activity Professional certification (ADC, ACC, CTRS, or eligibility) is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with geriatric residents, including those with dementia.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lead both group and one-on-one activities, lift up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead daily recreational and therapeutic activities for residents.
  • Encourage resident participation through individualized and group programming.
  • Assist with holiday celebrations, special events, outings, and themed activities.
  • Develop meaningful activities that accommodate residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities, including those with dementia.
  • Maintain activity calendars, attendance records, and required documentation.
  • Transport residents safely to and from activity programs as needed.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, volunteers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Assist with decorating common areas for holidays, seasons, and special events.
  • Monitor resident engagement and communicate changes in participation or behavior to appropriate staff.
  • Follow infection control, safety, HIPAA, and facility policies.
  • Participate in department meetings, in-service training, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience working in Activities within a skilled nursing facility or nursing home and be passionate about enriching the lives of older adults through engaging recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic programming.

The Activity Leader will assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing activities that promote residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and scheduling.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and assist with transporting residents as needed.
