Job summary

Kalamazoo Public Schools is seeking an Activity Helper for Woods Lake Elementary to supervise students during lunch and recess and to support a positive, safe school environment.

The role requires a High School Diploma, reliable attendance, and the ability to follow guidelines while engaging with elementary students during daily activities and play. This is a part-time on-site position during lunch hours at Woods Lake Elementary.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or accredited equivalent.
• Evidence of effective oral communication skills.
• Evidence of behavior that demonstrates a positive role model for students.
• Availability for employment during lunch hours of the school year.
• Previous record of good attendance.
• Ability and willingness to follow guidelines.
• Ability to play with students.
• Desirable: history of working successfully with elementary students.

Responsibilities

• Checks Activity Helper Bulletin Board or meets with Lead Activity Helper for assignments each day.
• Supervises students in building designated eating locations and on the playground (all seasons).
• Checks to see that all trays and debris from each group have been removed from tables and placed in the garbage containers, verifies no recess equipment and/or personal items are left on the playground.
• Takes assigned groups to the area where children are to remain until the lunch period is over.
• REMAINS WITH STUDENTS AT ALL TIMES and is responsible for their SAFETY.
• Becomes familiar with the Activity Helper Binder, its contents, and location.
• Attends meetings as scheduled.
• Interacts with children each day through play.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities

In conjunction with the building behavior team, supervise students during lunch and recess.

Performance Responsibilities
