Activities Assistant
The primary purpose of this position is to provide recreational activities for residents by assisting in planning, conducting, evaluating, and participating in one-on-one and group activity programs. The Activities Aide also ensures a safe environment for the residents at all times.
Job Responsibilities:
- Help residents maintain their highest level of functioning by presenting appropriate activity programs according to their physical capacity, cognitive ability, and interests.
- Motivate residents to take an interest in their life and community by exploring alternative activities, hobbies, and community interests.
- Prepare recreational therapy sessions (dementia group) as assigned weekly.
- Deliver mail, flowers, and other items to residents promptly and read mail to residents upon request.
- Prepare for activity programs by ensuring all supplies are available and rooms are ready.
- Encourage residents to participate by announcing activities 30 minutes before they start.
- Assist in transporting residents to activity programs.
- Conduct resident shopping as requested.
- Accompany residents outside the facility to participate in community events.
- Assist residents with craft projects and activities.
- Implement activity procedures, including creating decorations, setting up equipment, and guiding residents in crafts and games.
- Assist in making appointments for residents as needed.
- Help schedule movies, plan parties, and organize games/activities for residents.
- Supervise activities as necessary.
- Maintain competency and be tested for proficiency as required.
- Ensure safety and proper care of residents during transport and activities.
- Properly document resident participation and evaluations.
- Follow proper procedures during activities such as ceramics, crafts, needlework, and games.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education and Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited high school or GED preferred.
- Previous long-term care experience is desirable.
- Artistic background or previous instruction from a certified activity consultant is a plus.
