Job summary

Solheim Lutheran Home in Los Angeles, CA seeks a Per Diem Activity Assistant to support a therapeutic program addressing residents' spiritual, intellectual, or social preferences. You will assist in providing activities suitable to residents’ cognitive levels and assist in distributing items requested by medical staff.

Responsibilities include organizing events, assisting with group activities, and visiting residents who are ill while maintaining confidentiality and adherence to regulatory

Responsibilities

  • Assist Engagement Coordinator in conducting planned group activities.
  • Provide opportunities for residents who opt out of group activities.
  • Organize social events like birthdays and cultural/religious observances.
  • Visit residents who are ill or require extra attention.
  • Ensure timekeeping is accurate and maintain organized work areas.
  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Assists Solheim Senior Community ("Solheim") in providing a therapeutic activity program that addresses residents' spiritual, intellectual or social preferences. Assists in providing therapeutic activities that enables residents in the different levels of care to participate in programs, appropriate to their cognitive level based on past & current leisure preferences. Sorts and distributes the mail and procures medications requested by authorized medical staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists Engagement Coordinator in conducting planned group activities.
  • Provides opportunities and facilitates independent activity for those residents who choose not to participate in group activities.
  • Assists in organizing social events: birthday celebrations, special events – religious days, national holidays, days holding significance for any of our residents and staff (i.e., cultural events). Social events should be organized keeping in mind residents' preference.
  • Visits with residents who are ill and restricted to their rooms or need more attention as instructed by the Director.
  • Adheres to payroll policies and properly uses timekeeping system with minimal manual changes.
  • Keeps workstations organized and clutter-free.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
  • Adheres to Compliance Plan and HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other diseases that afflict an older population preferred
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY:
  • Desire and ability to work with ill, aged, and disabled persons.
  • Willingness and ability to read, write, speak, understand English and have the communications skills necessary to provide accurate information to residents and staff.
  • Willingness and ability to follow written and verbal direction in English.
  • Willingness and ability to maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and privacy.
  • Willingness and ability to interact professionally with all customers, including the ill, aged, disabled persons and co-workers, individually and as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to effectively handle multiple items/tasks as required and adapt favorably to changing priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to make appropriate judgments, decisions and problem solving in a timely manner and within the context of the situation at hand.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize items/tasks as required.
  • Willingness and ability to effectively respond to emergency and/or crisis situations.
  • Willingness and ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Willingness and ability to understand and comply with Federal, State, and local regulations.
