Description

Prairieview Activity Assistant

Part-time - Every other weekend 8:30-5:00 PM and rotating holiday.

Hourly Rate - $15.50

Principle Accountabilities for Activity Assistant:

• Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing the activity programs at The Garlands of Barrington.
• Provide recreation activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, special entertainment, outings, special events and one-on-one visits.
• Encourage residents to participate in programming by taking the time to personally invite those residents.
• Create an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.
• Participate in community outings off-campus.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of residents' attendance, progress and response to activities in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Coordinate activities with other departments, and modify program content, times, and locations as necessary.
• Distribute the monthly newsletter of activities to every resident, and be able to clearly answer any questions pertaining to the information contained in the newsletter.
• Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of The Garlands as appointed.
• Conduct tours of the facility and explain available services to prospective families and residents.
• Assist with components of move-ins as assigned and directed by the Administrator.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Activity Assistant:

• Experience working with Alzheimer’s & Dementia in assisted living or long term care environment.
• Proven customer service skills.
• Compassion, patience and understanding.
• Effective communication skills.
• Must complete 16 hours of Dementia Training within 1 year of hire.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Must be able to tolerate long periods of walking and standing.
• Must be able to push customers in wheelchairs.
