Job summary

The Department of State (DOS) in Delaware is seeking an Activity Aide I to provide recreational and creative expressive activities for mentally ill, physically and/or developmentally disabled clients in a residential, long-term care or psychiatric facility or a community day program.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of conducting group activities.
• Knowledge of working with persons with disabilities.
• Knowledge of applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of narrative report writing.
• Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

• Oversees and instructs clients/patients in activities such as games, music, athletics, arts and crafts, swimming and exercise programs.
• Plans and organizes trips and special events.
• Observes and records progress, problems and incidents.
• Conducts initial and ongoing client assessments and interest surveys.
• Develops, recommends, and implements activity treatment or goal attainment plans; participates as a member of the treatment team.
• Performs minor maintenance and requisitions needed supplies.
• May drive van or school bus and supervise patients/clients on trips outside the facility.
