Job summary

LifeSpire of Virginia seeks an Activities Program Assistant (Part-Time) to enhance the daily lives of residents under the Life Enrichment team.

The role involves planning engaging activities, coordinating calendars, supervising residents, and ensuring safe, welcoming environments while maintaining accurate attendance records. The position also requires good communication, patience, and computer skills; weekend and varied daytime hours are part of the schedule.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with the geriatric population preferred.
  • Ability to work with residents with cognitive and physical impairments; strong organization and record‑keeping skills.
  • Patience, creativity, punctuality, dependability, flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to work with healthcare residents.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead engaging individual and group recreational activities tailored to residents' interests, abilities, and needs.
  • Maintain and distribute activity calendars and ensure schedules are current and accurately posted.
  • Prepare, organize, and clean up activity spaces while ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Assist with resident transportation to on- and off-campus activities and provide supervision during outings.
  • Document resident participation and maintain required records in compliance with regulations.
  • Support resident well-being by respecting resident rights, maintaining confidentiality (HIPAA), and assisting with personal requests such as reading mail or writing letters.
  • Coordinate activity supplies, oversee volunteers, and handle program-related payments and receipts as needed.
  • Assist with the care of program pets and maintain clean pet areas.
  • Collaborate effectively with residents, families, coworkers, and other departments to deliver exceptional resident experiences.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through reliable attendance, flexibility, clear communication, and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and perform additional duties as assigned to support quality resident care.

Job Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Resident Services, the Program Assistant is responsible for the organization, implementation, supervision of residents in activities, and documentation of resident attendance records. The Program Assistant shall make every effort to meet the comprehensive needs and interests of all residents in Healthcare.

Schedule

Week 1: Wednesday 12pm-4pm, Thursday 9am-4pm, Friday 9am-4pm, Saturday 10am-2pm.
Week 2: Tuesday 12pm-4pm, Wednesday 12pm-4pm, Thursday 9am-4pm, Friday 9am-4pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Must be able to work with residents with varying degrees of cognitive and physical impairments; must have good organization, time management, and record‑keeping skills.
  • Requires patience, creativity, punctuality, dependability, flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to work with Healthcare residents; must be self‑directed to accomplish tasks.
  • Be able to work in close cooperation with the Healthcare Program Manager, accept and utilize supervisory recommendations, and display initiative to complete activity‑related tasks and programs.
  • Computer skills are essential.
Physical Requirements
  • Works in a well‑lighted, well‑ventilated building.
  • Move tables, chairs, and exert twenty pounds of force on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs on an occasional basis.
  • Performance of a medium level of physical work: pushing, lifting, bending, kneeling, standing, sitting, carrying, stooping, and reaching.
